Polocrosse Nyati Tournament continues today in Elandslaagte

The 2023 World Cup is scheduled for July 20-26 in Shongweni

The Nyati Polocrosse Tournament kicked off yesterday (March 25) and will continue today.

It is fast-paced sports action on the field, combined with a host of fun activities and a plethora of food stalls to cater for your every desire off the field.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see some of South Africa’s top players in action, including several Protea team members.

Polocrosse is a team sport that is a combination of polo and lacrosse. It is played outside, on a field (the pitch), on horseback. Each rider uses a cane or fibreglass stick, to which is attached a racquet head with a loose, thread net in which the ball is carried. The ball is made of sponge rubber and is approximately four inches across. The objective is to score goals by throwing the ball between the opposing team’s goal posts. Unlike polo, players are allowed to only play one horse, except in the case of injury. There is no restriction on the horse’s height.

Polocrosse is often described as ‘the king of one-horse sports’ and when you see players in action, you soon realise that women and men are treated equally in the sport.

The clubs are divided into the following provinces: Natal, Mpumalanga, Eastern Province, Western Province, Orange Free State, Limpopo and Gauteng.

PASA is an affordable equestrian organisation that promotes all levels of riders. There are frequent international tours for the open age group, veterans, U/25, U/19, U/16 and U/14 age groups. Younger players are not limited according to their age. If they are good enough, they are old enough! Women and men get equal opportunities to represent their provinces and country.

The 2023 World Cup is scheduled for July 20-26 in Shongweni, South Africa. The Polocrosse World Cup will bring players from eight countries, namely Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, UK, Ireland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
