Addressing the root causes of crime

Social crime prevention was one of the priority topics that was discussed

Awareness and education was on the agenda for the day when stakeholders visited Bhekathina High School.

Ntabamhlophe Social Crime Prevention partnered with other government departments and went back to the classroom recently.

Their task was to dissect ‘social crime prevention’, which police believe is an approach that addresses the root causes of crime.

Topics discussed included gender-based violence, sexual offences, human trafficking, and the safety of women and children.

Alcohol and substance abuse was said to be a particularly ‘burning issue’. The awareness campaign was well-received by the learners.
