Long awaited Emadlangeni power project finally launched

The project is being carried out in collaboration with Eskom, who has appointed Mood Electrical as the project's contractor.

Over 140 households in Emadlangeni (Utrecht) will, for the first time, be connected to the power grid.

The Izimbuthu Electrification Project in Ward 5 was finally launched after several delays.

Eskom has appointed Mood Electrical as the project’s contractor.

Ayanda Mabaso, Emadlangeni communications officer, said the launch was attended by the Speaker, Cllr PX Qwabe, Deputy Mayor, Cllr PF Chongo, and the Whip of Council, Cllr T.M. Masondo who is also the ward councillor where the project is being implemented.

Local Izinduna were also present, led by Indunankulu Mrs Khoza, who is also from the area.

The project was met with joy by community members, who expressed their gratitude to the Municipality’s leadership,” Mabaso said.

Cllr Khoza expressed her appreciation to Eskom officials who have been collaborating with the Municipality to ensure that the project gets underway.

She condemned those who have already begun to stealing materials from the site. Six poles were recently stolen. She stated that this will cause a delay in service delivery, which the people of Emadlangeni desperately need.

A reward has been offered to anyone with information on the perpetrators, and anyone with information should contact the ward councillor.”
