DHS bags trophies at St Dom’s hockey tournament

Africa played his socks off to earn 'Best Defender of the Tournament'.

The first and second Dundee High School (DHS) boys’ hockey teams travelled to Newcastle on Saturday to take part in the annual preseason hockey tournament hosted at St Dominic’s Academy.
It is always such a pleasant day, excellently organised and filled with action-packed games played by various schools in the district.
The first team had a great day, with lots of challenging games.
The second team stood out by finishing first in their pool. They won their semi-final game against the Ferrum U/16 team, with a great goal from Joshua Estrice.
The final was, unfortunately, a draw and eight-second shoot-outs did not take place due to a storm approaching. The trophy was thus shared by Sarel Cilliers’ second and DHS’s second team. DHS would like to make special mention of Joshua Estrice, who was awarded trophies for ‘Player of the Tournament’ and ‘Mid-fielder of the Tournament’. Thabiso Africa also played his socks off to earn ‘Best Defender of the Tournament’.
On Saturday, DHS’s first rugby team travelled to Greytown to play against Greytown High.
It was a challenging game, with an early injury to the captain, but they managed to walk away with a win of 24-21.
Hanro van Zyl was selected as ‘Man of the Match’.
