It’s ‘ready, set, go’ as Sarel Cilliers’ sports stars excel on the field

The cross-country was a good warm-up for the Sarel Cilliers athletes, many of whom then took part in the district athletics meeting held at DHS.

Sarel Cilliers held their inter-house athletics on February 22.
The coaches used this opportunity as a training exercise for their sports teams, which made for a very strong field of participants.
A Griffiths, C Arnolds and A Xulu were the top three girls in the junior section; while J Nimmerhoudt, A Similani and L Msimango were the top junior boys.
The senior girls were K Rikhotso, S Similani and A Tshabalala; while the senior boys were T Griffiths, L Jam-Jam and S Mtimkulu.
Thanks to the organiser, Mrs C van Zyl, for all the hard work in ensuring that the event was so successful.

The athletes acquitted themselves very well and the school waits to hear if any have made it through to represent the district in Durban later this month.
The rugby teams had a busy weekend away, with the junior rugby teams playing away in Greytown while the first and U/16s left to play at Voortrekker.
The junior boys lost both their matches on Friday, but came back strongly on Saturday to win, with the U/14 team winning 35-7 against Greytown High School and the U/15 team 26-5 against Weston Agricultural School. The first team won 7-0 against Voortrekker, with Simphiwe Zulu showing excellent form. However, the U/16 team had to concede defeat to Durban High School 0-61. The first and second boys’ hockey teams participated in the St Dominic’s Academy Tournament over the weekend and both teams excelled. The second team won with a convincing 3-1 score-line against NHS, with Slidokuhle Dladla scoring all three goals. They made it through to the finals, where they drew. Due to the weather, the match could not proceed to the eight-second penalties, which resulted in the win being shared with Newcastle High School. This is the first time the second team have brought home such a prestigious trophy and the school is very proud of them. The first team boys also made it into the finals of the tournament, with the game ending in a draw. This resulted in an eight-second penalty shoot-out, which the boys unfortunately lost to Dundee High School. The teams are playing excellently and showing good form on the field.
