Athletes take on the rocky road to raise money and awareness

One of the organisers, Njabulo Buthelezi, said the primary goal of this fun run was to generate money because the club lacks a sponsor and needs cash to pay for transportation costs for young athletes when they compete.

In order to raise funds, Dundee Athletic Club (DAC) held a 10-kilometre time trial fun race from Dundee to Glencoe on Sunday morning.
The ±50 athletes who competed were also running to support the fight against cable theft, gender-based violence, and the murder of women and children.
There were three distinct categories: a fun walk, a men’s race and a women’s race.
In the men’s race, Siyabonga Ndlovu of the Ama Ravens Club took top spot in 33:38, followed by Andile Mbatha (Biggarsberg Athletic Club) and Ayanda Buthelezi (Biggarsberg Athletic Club).
Sihle Ntshangase and Phelelani Ndebele finished second and third respectively in the fun walk, in the women’s event.
One of the organisers, Njabulo Buthelezi, said the primary goal of this fun run was to generate money because the club lacks a sponsor and needs cash to pay for transportation costs for young athletes when they compete.
Buthelezi stated that, “We are trying to raise money for the club in every way possible and we held this 10km fun run to assist our young enthusiasts, as they need money for transportation when they go to contests.”
All those who contributed in whatever way were thanked by him. The club welcomes any and all support from the community. You can email njabuloeb@gmail.com or phone 078 116 0767 if you would like to help the club.
