Body found, but no mortuary van

The ‘canine officer’ followed the spoor and blood stains to where the body was found 800m from the gravel road

A 26-year-old man was killed on Saturday night in the Ntendeka area. The man and his girlfriend were walking along a gravel road in the forest when they were approached by four men. The men attacked the boyfriend with a panga, but the girlfriend managed to get away and ran for help. Police were called and when they arrived at the scene, they found blood stains but no body. Warrant Officer Nkosi and his dog ‘Achil’ from the Vryheid K9 Search & Rescue Unit were tasked with looking for the body. The ‘canine officer’ followed the spoor and blood stains to where the body was found 800m from the gravel road. After several phone calls to the mortuary over several hours, it was discovered that no one was on duty at the mortuary. More calls were made and mortuary personnel eventually arrived at the scene at about 03:00 in the morning.
