Update: Areas of Ladysmith without power

The approximate restoration time is by this afternoon (March 5).

Alfred Duma Local Municipality has issued a media statement regarding the power outages being experienced in town. According to the municipality, they detected a power failure in Observation Hill yesterday (March 4).

The relevant department isolated the faulty cable from their Fairclough Switch circuit breaker S11 to Willemse Road minisub 2. This affected the power to 18 substations in the area.
The fault was allocated at around 19:30 last night, and staff prepared to carry out excavation and initiate repairs.

The approximate restoration time is by this afternoon (March 5).

Yesterday at around 17:00, the town experienced a heavy storm that worsened power outages in town.
The following areas were affected by the storm:

– Hospital Park, Newlands Road. Power was restored at 19:50.

– Van Riebeeck Park area, affecting Klipbank Road, Kleinman Crescent, and the motel’s line. Power was restored at 18:30.

– Nambithi Switch House. Most residential areas were restored at around 18:45.
Circuit breaker S3 from the same switch house, feeding the Industrial areas. Main Road and Mill Street, and parts of Tanjore and Burma Road are still off due to a fault. The fault has been identified between between the Total minisubstation in Main Road and the SAPS minisubstation in Mill Street, thus reducing the outage to parts of Burma, Tanjore Road and two industries in Mill Street.
Technicians are locating the fault this morning and the approximate restoration time, if all goes well, should be late this evening due to multiple faults around the Alfred Duma Local Municipality areas.

– Steadville 2 Switch House.

Areas currently off due to faults on the line/cable are Rooi, Jabavu, Steadville Hostel, Umbulwane, and Tsakane.
Electricians are still busy locating faults and isolating before power can be restored.

The municipality’s standby electrician is also attending to individual calls reported to Public Safety.
