Municipality kicks off IDP and Budget road shows

Municipal Manager Mr Dhlamini mentioned to the residents that the IDP is a process whereby community members voice what they need to see happen in their respective wards.

The ‘Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget Consultation’ process kicked off last week. An IDP meeting was held, led by AbaQulusi Mayor Mncedisi Maphisa and other municipal officials such as the municipal manager and deputy mayor.

The mayor first met with all the ward committees at Cecil Emmet Hall on Monday, February 20. Thereafter, he met with Amakhosi and other stakeholders such as the SAPS, Education and Transport. Later that day, in council chambers, the mayor engaged with the Business Forum and Business Chamber.

Last week Tuesday, he engaged with the community members of Coronation, before meeting with residents from Ward 8, 9, 10, 11,13 and 22. Municipal Manager Mr Dhlamini mentioned to the residents that the IDP is a process whereby community members voice what they need to see happen in their respective wards. He went on to say that residents should have a ‘wish list’ of the things they need the most. However, as much as people have their ‘wishes’, everything works on a budget. He told the residents that the municipality will come back to them with a proposed budget during the month of April, and with responses regarding their grievances.

Residents asked the officials to look closer at: graveyards, electricity, litter around town, sewage drains, potholes, street lights, bridges, job opportunities for the youth, and many other grievances that were outlined on the day.
