Emotions ran high at the solemn prayer service

Dozens of people gathered in Wembezi yesterday (March 1) to be part of a prayer meeting and march in memory of Zandile (Nokwa) Nils.

The 31-year-old was stabbed to death and her body was recovered on Sunday (February 26).

Gathering a few meters from where the deceased’s body was found, residents united in their call for swift justice in Nokwa’s murder.

A prayer service was held where religious and political leaders remembered a bright young woman whose life was senselessly snuffed out.

Emotions ran high as tributes were made.

The residents, carrying placards condemning gender-based violence and Nokwa’s murder, then marched through the streets of Wembezi before they returned to the Nokwa’s home to continue the prayer service.
