Bongumusa Mncube (26) has been sentenced to 20 years for the murder of Glencoe teenager Cebisile Buthelezi, whose dismembered body was burned and her remains buried in different locations.
The 15-year-old was reported missing on November 6, 2019. Glencoe police began an investigation and after station commander Colonel Ngobese had herself interviewed Cebisile’s sister, a manhunt was launched for her boyfriend. The investigation took police to a house in Marikana, Sithembile, which was locked.
The forensic team was called in and the house was searched.
Police found what were thought to be blood stains, among other exhibits that were gathered for evidence.
With the help of the Newcastle K9 Unit, Mncube was arrested in the Matiwaneskop area near Elandslaagte.
Some of Cebisile’s remains were found in a shallow grave on Damman Farm in the vicinity of Donald McHardy Dam.
More remains were found in other areas.
Mncube appeared in the Madadeni High Court, where he was found guilty and jailed.
