CBD underwater as flooding hits again

The water level is rising...

The low-lying CBD area is currently underwater as flooding set in yesterday (February 17).

This morning, the water level has risen even higher.

Public Safety have closed off roads such as King, Queen, Lyell and Forbes Street due to the flooding.

Motorists are advised to stay away from these areas.

Alfred Duma Mayor Zama Sibisi said in a video clip recorded at a community radio station that 12 valves are needed for the lower CBD area and at this stage, they have managed to install eight. He added that this is the reason it took longer to flood this time, and they can see the difference.

The municipality is expecting the other four valves to be delivered on March 27.

The municipality confirmed that water is still coming in where they haven’t installed the valves and that when the remaining valves have been installed, flooding will be a thing of the past.
