During the holiday season, heavy storms brought down trees at Dundee cemetery in Handley Street (opposite the ambulance depot), destroying tombstones and graves.
Families of those buried there were left distraught after witnessing the destruction of about 15 memorial stones and graves.
Most said they couldn’t afford to have the graves repaired.
Passersby are entering the cemetery and taking the branches to use as firewood.
The community is also concerned about what they perceive to be lack of maintenance, as there is long grass around the graves and tombstones. Some residents have complained to the Courier about alcohol bottles strewn about the neighbourhood.
It was also said that the ablution blocks are either always locked or ‘out of order’.
The municipality is currently attending to these complaints.
