Pedestrian knocked down in Keate Street

Public Safety officers were on scene

A pedestrian was knocked down by a municipal vehicle in Keate Street opposite Home Affairs this morning (January 23). The man was lucky not to be injured.

The driver, a municipal worker, said the pedestrian just ran across the road and there was nothing he could do. He added that people gathered at the scene and threatened him after the incident, which was upsetting.

The pedestrian declined to comment on the situation.

According to bystanders, the driver was questioned by an angry mob as to why he had hit the pedestrian. A fight then broke out. Other municipal staff arrived and calmed the aggrieved driver. A huge group of people stood around and watched the commotion.
