‘The act of giving’ by Halalisani Shoba

Give love, give hope, give sympathy, give those prayers, give that smile, give comfort, give assurance, give protection, give time.

Happy New Year. I hope and believe that success, abundance and richness will locate you wherever you are in year 2023.

“Blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives”. As much as that principle was derived from the bible; I believe, but you don’t need to be a fan of the same bible I read or subscribe to certain religion in order to understand that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with giving. Whether you have it plenty or less but I strongly believe and advocate that you can always practice the act of giving. Having said that, it is also important to note that; it is not mandatory to give but it is something we can practice as some sort of a lifestyle.

Past week as I was minding my business in some health facility, out of nowhere came a Muslim young lady. She decided to offer me 2 slice of bread, “sandwich”. I saw no need to turn down her offer as I took the sandwich. It quickly stroked my mind that perhaps she’s doing it on behalf of some organization, which is something she later confirmed. As much as I don’t subscribe to her religion but I liked her attitude towards giving. It was not the first time I witnessed such method of giving being practiced but on that day it felt different, maybe it was because of the manner of her approach, her confident or the way she highly respects her commitments and religion; I couldn’t put all my puzzle pieces together. How I wish in every corner in our communities we had such people and mentality of giving.

Wherever you are, you can always practice the act of giving. Give love, give hope, give sympathy, give those prayers, give that smile, give comfort, give assurance, give protection, give time. Giving shouldn’t be limited to only material things because “It is not just bread that keeps people alive”, by just giving hope; you can save someone’s’ life.
