A tipper truck burst into flames while on the N3 northbound near Wagendrift Dam this afternoon (January 14).
The N3 northbound is closed at Midway with traffic being diverted through Estcourt; and onto the Wembezi interchange.
Emergency services are on scene. Currently no injuries have been reported.
Umtshezi Fire Protection Association (UFPA) Chairperson Warren Blaker explained that an off-duty RTI officer spotted the plumes of smoke and rang the alarm.
“UFPA contacted the relevant authorities. On arrival, the side tipper trailers and truck were fully engulfed by fire. Together with the Inkosi Langalibele Fire and Rescue Services and N3TC, the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished. I would like to commend all the services for a swift professional response, ” said Blaker.
