Steps have been taken to ease on-going water supply interruptions in Emadlangeni (Utrecht) with the launch of a multi-million Rand project to refurbish in the water plant.

Amajuba District Mayor, Prince Ndabuko Zulu and the Emadlangeni, M.L Buthelezi, launched the project on January 5 where it was said the project will be done over two stages.

The interruptions have been caused by water production failures which have prompted residents to protest and resort to illegal water connections.

The project also aims to improve the quality of water delivered to homes.
The launch saw the community being presented with the contractor and consultant appointed to upgrade the water treatment plant.

“The current water plant is old and requires extensive refurbishment to the existing building structures, mechanical and electrical components and operators’ facilities,” the Mayor said in his address to the community.

“Most of the plant needs to be refurbished or completely replaced. Furthermore, as Deputy Mayor S.Sizani has stated, construction will provide employment opportunities for Emadlangeni residents.
