Estcourt Animal Shelter needs you

Volunteers to assist with maintenance and refurbishment are required

Maintenance and revamp projects kicked off at the Estcourt Animal Shelter after a generous donation of paint and other supplies from proceeds of a potjie kos competition.

Rena Licen and her helpers continued the project recently  when the long grass in the three dog pens was cut; and the wall in the large cattery was prepared and painted. The team will return to add colour and motifs to the walls.

The shelter committee hopes to seal and repaint all the cages, as well as the office, in future. Being a community-based non-profit organisation, the Estcourt Animal Shelter relies on the generosity of donors to keep the animals comfortable and the shelter afloat.

Committee member Gwen Freeman said that donations of paint and plants would be most welcome. More importantly, the shelter needs community volunteers to help with the maintenance and refurbishment.

“Basically, we really could do with assistance regarding maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. Even donations of pots with plants or just plants would be welcome so that we can continue to improve the shelter,” she said.

Animal lovers are also encouraged to provide foster care for animals. An interview and pre-approval procedures will be followed.

“Some of the puppies and kittens come in so small and they thrive in a home,” explained Freeman.
