uThukela staff currently picketing

At this stage, it is not known when water will be restored to the areas that have been affected

uThukela employees are picketing outside the offices in Forbes Street today (December 1).

Workers belonging to the South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMU) say they are unhappy because their overtime and standby wages have been suspended. The ‘suspension’ allegedly took place in May this year.

Today’s strike is a planned, legal one and has resulted in some areas of Ladysmith being left without water.

The strikers are toyi-toyi’ing while they wait to be addressed by management.

Police at the scene.
