A living tribute to those lost in road crashes

The Remembrance Tree creates a place for solace for those who have lost loved ones

Today (November 20) marks World Day of Remembrance (WDoR) for road traffic victims.

Annually, thousands of people are killed in road crashes and tributes to them can often be seen along the country’s roads, left by the grieving family members.

To commemorate WDoR this year, emergency services personnel created a “place for solace” and unveiled a Remembrance Tree, as a tribute to all those who have lost their lives in road crashes.

The Remembrance Tree, which is an indigenous Wit Stinkhout is planted at the Midway Family Stop and is in a fenced-off area with benches where the public can sit and reflect on the lives of their lost loved ones.
