Bashir Khan bids farewell after a lifetime of service

I want to wish the town of Glencoe all the best in the future, and I hope and pray that it will be a safe and happy place for everyone to enjoy!!

Glencoe resident Bashir Khan has a reputation as someone to be reckoned with! Sadly, he is now leaving the town.
Mr Khan has served the community in many different roles while living in Glencoe – as a teacher, HOD for Mathematics, an inspector of Mathematics in the Northern Natal region, a principal of ML Sultan Glencoe Secondary School, vice-chairperson of the Glencoe Mosque and Madressa Trust, well-wisher and supporter of the Dundee Sibongile Mosque (which is being constructed), chairperson of the Glencoe Residents’ & Ratepayers’ Association, ward councillor of Glencoe, member of the management committee at ABH Homes, debt councillor who provided guidance and assistance for many needy residents, and Mathematics tutor for many students.
“With a heart full of sadness, I announce my leaving this sweet little town of Glencoe – and leaving the ‘nest’ of the Zardad Khan family.
“It is indeed a very difficult move and my heart goes out to the tons of lovely, kind, supportive people who make up the residents of Glencoe. I accept the fact that nothing is forever and all good things must come to an end someday.”
Bashir explains that he has been in Glencoe since birth, which is about 70 years.
“I am a member of a pioneering family, the Zardad Khan family, which held a very successful family reunion on September 25 at the Amajuba Hall in Dundee,” he continued, adding that it’s extremely difficult to leave after so many years.
“Besides my family roots being here, I have made many friends while growing up in this little community. Serving in many leadership positions and always working according to the rules and regulations the different roles demanded undoubtedly presented many challenges.
“I want to thank all who worked with me in the different roles I played and supported me in our endeavours to give the best to Glencoe.
“I also wish to apologise to anyone whom I may have unknowingly upset while trying to function according to the rules, regulations and requirements of the posts / roles I was holding. Know that my priority was to do the best for the community of Glencoe. I want to wish the town of Glencoe all the best in the future, and I hope and pray that it will be a safe and happy place for everyone to enjoy,” he concluded.
