Snyman has been invited to compete in two tennis tournaments in Australia.
The 16-year-old Dundee High School (DHS) learner is one of four tennis players in KZN to crack the nod for two nationally-ranked tournaments, namely the Margaret Court Cup (Albury New South Wales, Australia) and the Victorian Junior Grass Court Championships (Wodonga, Victoria, Australia).
This comes on top of Zemichke being selected for the Umzinyathi SALGA team. She will be representing Umzinyathi Tennis with her teammates in the December provincial SALGA Games, which will take place in the Amajuba District.
Zemichke, who only started playing tennis four years ago, will leave for ‘Down Under’ on December 30 and return on January 17 next year. She will be staying at the Margaret Court Tennis Academy for the duration of the tournament and will be accommodated by local families.
The Cup was established to recognise Margaret Court, one of the finest female tennis players in world history, who also grew up in Albury. The Margaret Court Cup is held each January and has been twice awarded the TNSW Tournament of the Year.
Players come from all over Australia, Oceania and overseas to take part. Before returning to South Africa, Zemichke will experience a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the top stars in action at the Australian Open.
Commented an excited Zemichke, “It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come around often and I am very grateful. At first I didn’t have enough trust in myself to think that I could reach my goals, but in order to do great things, you need to trust and put in the work. Focus hard on your goals and success will follow.”
