IFP hosts CBD clean-up

The team visited several areas in town that are ‘litter hotspots’

A clean-up campaign in the Estcourt CBD was organised by the IFP Imbabazane Constituency in uMtshezi on October 21 and was a huge success. Volunteers came out in their numbers. This campaign started at the Estcourt post office and then proceeded to the taxi rank.

It was attended by the leadership of the IFP Imbabazane Constituency, led by chairperson Cllr Welcome Mbatha, IFP caucus chairperson in Inkosi Langalibalele Cllr KR Dladla, Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, Speaker Cllr Siphiwe Khumalo, Community Services Portfolio Committee chairperson Cllr Getty Mnikathi, IFP councillors and volunteers.

After the clean-up swept through the Estcourt post office.

Despite the mayor’s attendance at the clean-up campaign as a volunteer, he promised that matters raised and discovered during the campaign will be followed up with management to ensure that the municipality plays its role in keeping the CBD clean. He was referring to issues such as blocked drains and waste bins that are no longer cleaned and taken care of.

In the same breath, Cllr Mnikathi said, “I will also raise all these issues that we have identified in the portfolio committee meetings and ensure that officials concerned are held to account. In order to attract investors, we have to start off with the simplest of things, like keeping our town clean.”

Constituency chairperson Cllr Welcome Mbatha, who is also the chairperson of the Infrastructure & Technical Portfolio Committee, extended his gratitude to the IFP volunteers for their time and dedication to keeping the town clean.

He further urged members of the IFP to always go the extra mile and go beyond the call of duty to be of help to needy and deserving communities and be active citizens.

He reiterated that matters concerning his portfolio committee will also receive the necessary attention during committee meetings.
