Judges’ comments: “Great design, strong community stories, excellent use of feature pages. A good local newspaper with neat layout.”

The Forum of Community Journalists NPC (FCJ) was able to host the awards ceremony for the first time since Covid-19 hit the world, according to Roelien D’Amico, Director of Kwa-Zulu Natal Forum of Community Journalists NPC.

She stated the FCJ received a new sponsor this year to host the AVBOB FCJ Excellence Awards 2021.

AVBOB’s financial investment in the Forum and industry demonstrated its recognition of the role of community journalists in society and its support for excellent journalism.

The FCJ (Forum of Community Journalists) is an independent, non-profit organisation that works to promote and express the interests of all journalists in South Africa who work on a permanent or freelance basis for regional community newspapers and online community publications.

The FCJ’s long-standing sponsors, Media24 and Caxton, renewed their support, allowing the FCJ to host a national seminar with guest speakers, Reg Rumney and André Gouws, prior to the gala dinner.

The Forum applauded and thanked the judges’ panel, as well as convener Andre Gouws, for their outstanding work in judging this year’s entries.

All finalists and winners of the AVBOB FCJ Excellence Awards 2021 are commended and congratulated by the FCJ and its sponsors.”
