Primary school closed by angry parents

The gate is locked, denying everyone access to the school

Angry parents closed the gates of Kirkintulloch Primary School this morning (October 18).

This comes after an alleged breakdown in the relationship between the principal and the teachers, which led to the teachers ‘downing tools’ last week.

According to School Governing Body (SGB) deputy chairperson Sipho Shabalala, a meeting was held yesterday (October 17) between the SGB teachers and the principal to find a solution.

However, the meeting failed to yield any positive results as, according to Shabalala, the principal was rude to the teachers and also to the SGB members.

“We decided to close the school up until the circuit manager comes. We want the principal removed because it is clear that he is the cause of the problem.”

Shabalala added that they have called the circuit manager and he said he will only be available on Thursday (October 20). He emphasised that everything will be at a standstill up until the circuit manager comes and addresses the issue.
