Municipality officially welcomes back reinstated employees

Jabu Mokoena, beaming with delight, lauded the efforts of SAMWU and Newcastle's leadership, led by Cllr Xolani Dube as she thanked the council for demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities.

Tears of joy and jubilation was the order of the day as over 200 reinstated municipal employees made their way into the Newcastle Farmers Hall.

Newcastle Mayor, his Worship Cllr. Xolani Dube, along with his Deputy Mayor, Cllr Musa Thwala, Speaker of Council, Cllr Thengi Zulu, and council chief whip, Nelisiwe Mthabela, officially welcomed back the 223 previously dismissed municipal during a celebration ceremony on October 3.

Dumisani Thabethe, Strategic Executive Director of the Department of Corporate Services, officially opened the celebration with a prayer before the reinstated employees began singing gospel tunes to commemorate the occasion.

This was then followed with speeches by multiple officials, who formally welcomed the employees back to their desks.
