Armed gang hijack, bomb G4s vehicle

The armed men forced the guards to lie down while they used detonators to bomb open the armoured vehicle.

A gang of about ten men, travelling in two vehicles, hijacked and bombed a G4S van transporting cash on the Dundee/Nquthu road on Monday evening.
Dundee SAPS said two G4S employees were travelling in the van at about 6.30pm and when nearing Blessing Store on the R66, noticed a Mercedes Benz, with no registration number, behind their vehicle.
A little later, their van was overtaken by a bakkie. Shots were fired at the van from both the Mercedes and bakkie, forcing the G4S van off the road.
The armed men forced the guards to lie down while they used detonators to bomb open the armoured vehicle. SAPS said a ‘substantial amount of cash was taken’.
The men made their getaway leaving the guards uninjured. Another G4S vehicle in the vicinity was alerted and the police called. A manhunt is currently underway.
