Cultural Evening a feast of cabbages and laughter

The English, Afrikaans and Zulu departments all put on brief skits, all of which showed a great level of professionalism and talent.

Sarel Cilliers’ (SCH) netball girls took part in the SPAR Schoolgirls Fast 5s Netball Tournament recently.
The U/16 team had a fun-filled day of exciting matches. The girls played well and out of their six games, they won three and lost three. The scores were as follows: SCH vs DHS 0-6, SCH vs Ferrum 4-12, SCH vs Pioneer 0-16, SCH vs Amajuba District Team 6-5, SCH vs St Dominic’s 8-4, SCH vs Amajuba 6-2. The girls played in the final against Newcastle High School and lost a very close game, with the score at 10-8. Congratulations on such a great effort! The tennis team left to play Vryheid High School and did extremely well too.

The Cultural Evening last Thursday was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyable. The English, Afrikaans and Zulu departments all put on brief skits, all of which showed a great level of professionalism and talent.
The English department put on a musical featuring a cabbage-farmer-turned-gangster and a lively nightclub scene with excellent performances by Tresor Bwato, Lethabo Rathelane and Siya Khumalo. Melusi and Mesuli Masondo wowed the audience with a very polished and difficult dance number.
The Afrikaans play depicted ‘Romeo & Juliet’ in the afterlife, and the Zulu play was as amusing as always. Congratulations to the directors – Ms Layland, Ms van der Merwe and Mr Dube – for all their hard work in showcasing such talent. Special thanks to Mr Autuar for the music. It was a very entertaining evening indeed.
