Mountain race winner sets blistering pace on the course to post new record

The 15km winner, Andile Mbatha, set a new course record with a time of 58.28 in fine weather conditions.

The annual Mpathi Mountain Race was held on Saturday morning, September 24, with 60 athletes participating in the 44th year of this marathon. There were two divisions to choose from, namely a 15km run / walk and a 5km run / walk. The 15km winner, Andile Mbatha, set a new course record with a time of 58.28 in fine weather conditions. He has also set a new record of 58 minutes.
The winners were as follows: 5km run: men’s winner – Tisetso Buthelezi (Nquthu AC); runner-up – Anya Ngobese (Biggarsberg AC). Ladies’ winner – Janine Deveroux; runner-up – Abigail van Buskirk. 15km run: men’s winner – Andile Mbatha (new course record of 58.28); runner-up – Samkelo Ngobese in a time of 59.25.
Ladies’ winner – Dimakatso Mathloung (two hours and 51 minutes); runner-up – Ngenzilene Masengeni.
Biggarsberg AC men’s Grandmaster winner – Daan Kotze. Ladies’ winner – Cathy de Beer. First junior – Annabella.
