Police arrest two suspects on drug-related charges

Both suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court for possession of illegal narcotics.

Officers attached to the Osizweni Crime Prevention Unit conducted an Intelligence-driven operation on Saturday that resulted in two arrests.

The two suspects were nabbed on drug-related charges.

According to Newcastle SAPS corporate communications officer Lizzy Arumugam, police followed up on a tip-off that led them to a house in the Mndozo area of Osizweni.

“When police arrived, they arrested a 32-year-old who was in possession of seven small parcels containing heroin,” said Arumugam.

Police then swooped on a second house in the same area, where they arrested a second suspect, aged 37, for also having seven parcels of heroin in his possession.

The recovered drugs are estimated to have a street value of around R700.

Both suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court for possession of illegal narcotics. Police investigations continue.
