Students compete in book review and poetry session

''You may wonder why we are having a book review or poetry. Well, it is one way of acquiring more knowledge, as one becomes more knowledgeable when you are able to read books.''

Mthashana TVET College held their book review and poetry competition on Friday.

Students from different colleges such as Mthashana, Majuba, Ladysmith, Mfolozi, Elangeni and Mgungundlovu TVET gathered in the hall to compete against one another.

Explaining the purpose of the day, Mrs Ngcobo said, “Education is the key and I need you students to sit where I am, but you are going to do that through education. You may wonder why we are having a book review or poetry. Well, it is one way of acquiring more knowledge, as one becomes more knowledgeable when you are able to read books. The moment you are able to create poems, one day your creations will take you to success, but only through education.”

Mr Trevor Nkosi from Student Support Services (SSS) gave a message of support. “This activity is crucial and critical, and we hope and pray it does what it intends to do. This activity is going to help build confidence and allow our students to have the ability to communicate fluently, which is very important in our day and age.” Nkosi emphasised that learning and education does not end at a TVET college, as he would like to see the students furthering their studies and participating in the entrepreneurship sector. ‘’We see you students as the ambassadors of the future.”

The students enjoyed sharing the stage, where they reviewed their favourite books and recited their poems. The winners will move on to the next round, where they will compete at national level next year.
