Blow-up mattresses a possible solution

Spokesperson for the Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Health, Ntokozo Maphisa commented and said as a matter of principle, no-one is permitted to sleep on the floor within the premises of the hospital.

When Anna-Marie Howell’s two-month-old grandson fell ill, he was admitted to Newcastle’s Mother and Baby Hospital on Sunday, September 4, where his mother accompanied him and had to sleep on the floor.

There were reportedly no beds or recliners in the ward to accommodate the mothers of the sick infants who were admitted for various ailments, Anna-Marie heard of this inhumanity and was infuriated.

Spokesperson for the Kwa-Zulu Natal Department of Health, Ntokozo Maphisa commented and said as a matter of principle, no-one is permitted to sleep on the floor within the premises of the hospital.

Despite this being emphasised, it appears that there has been a deviation from this norm, which is extremely concerning and unfortunate.”

Upon searching for a possible solution to this dilemma, Anna-Marie suggested inflatable mattresses be made available for the mothers in question.
