Sign language graduates unlock new opportunities

The graduates were encouraged to put their newfound skills to good use

The Forderville Hall was filled with congratulatory messages and elation on September 10 when 10 people graduated with a certificate in basic sign language.

The graduates had been part of a six- or three-month course offered by sign language teacher Sabelo Khumalo.

The course covered basic sign language skills, including the alphabet, days of the week, months of the year, and words relating to family.

Khumalo said he is proud of the graduates, explaining that their new qualification will enable them to secure non-teaching posts at special schools, which he will be helping them to apply for.

Guest speakers congratulated the graduates, urging them to use their new skills to be the voice of those who can’t speak and the ears of those who can’t hear.

The graduates were in high spirits and gave sincere appreciation to their teacher.
