Home Affairs Newcastle: back to normal?

The District Manager for Amajuba says measures were implemented to ease queueing and delays.

District Manager of Operations for Home Affairs in Amajuba, Uthukela and Umzinyathi, Nokwazi Khuzwayo said services at the local branch were returning to normal after a busy early 2022.

In response to further complaints from residents recently, she outlined some of the factors still playing a role for those making use of the Newcastle branch.

This included the effects of continuous load-shedding, backlogs due to Covid-19, high client collection numbers and system problems. However, the department has reportedly made strides in turning the situation around.

Measures implemented include generators to compensate for load-shedding, overtime hours in peak seasons, offering of birth registration at hospitals, the prioritising of the elderly, physically challenged and pregnant women, and provision of mobile offices.

All in all, there is great improvement as compared to February 2022.”
