Soccer match turns into ‘fight club’

The clash between Zim Stars and Legends FC was halted when an argument broke out.

A referee and Newcastle Legends players got into a tussle on the field, during the Newcastle Social Soccer League (NSSL) on Sunday (August 28).

Contention over a ‘crooked’ decision cast a shadow over the game between Legends and Zim Stars, with spectators swarming the pitch to make themselves heard. The match was eventually allowed to continue with a new referee.

Despite being visibly upset, the teams put on a good show which Stars won 2-0 to claim the trophy.

The day kicked off with Spartans versus Legends, which Legends won thanks to a goal from Caleb Maistry. The second match was Zim Stars versus Fairleigh United, which Stars won 4-2 on penalties.

The NSSL action continues this Sunday at the Fernwood Grounds.
