Two killed in horror R34 collision

Two trucks collided on the R34 between Newcastle and Memel this morning.

Two people are reported to have died, following a head-on collision between two trucks on the R34 between Newcastle and Memel early this morning (August 31).

According to Jan-Henk Van Vuuren of Magenta Medical Services, when paramedics arrived at the scene they found that two occupants had already succumbed to their injuries.

Three other patients also sustained injuries. Two were taken to hospital for further care and one was just treated at the scene,” he said.

The circumstances of the collision are unclear at this stage, and authorities have confirmed that the road is currently closed off. Numerous emergency services are currently at the scene.

It is believed the road will only be open to traffic by later this afternoon. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes.

The Newcastle Advertiser extends its condolences to the family of the deceased.
