Female officers hold roadblocks

A large number of vehicles were stopped, inspected and searched

Female officers from Uthukela District SAPS and Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) teamed up to hold roadblocks yesterday morning, which of course was Women’s Day (August 9).

The officers strategically positioned themselves along the N11, Helpmekaar Road and Shepstone Road.

The lady law enforcement officers used the opportunity to spread awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide, as well as impart road safety hints and tips to motorists.

During the roadblocks, they targeted drunken driving, possession of illegal weapons, drugs, and whether or not vehicles were roadworthy.

Hundreds of pamphlets were handed out.

The officers then drove into the CBD, where they continued their awareness campaign.

The Uthukela District Commissioner commended the women on their commitment and dedication, commenting that, “These officers sacrificed their family time to ensure that our roads are safer.”
