SAVF Jubileum lures Vryheiders to annual bazaar

At some stage, it seemed like the whole town was gathered on the SAVF grounds to support a worthy cause

It was like the ‘good old days’ at the SAVF Jubileum Old Age Home’s bazaar on Saturday. This is the first proper bazaar after Covid restrictions over the past two years, during which time the home had to improvise by having a ‘drive-thru’ bazaar. But this time, the air was filled with the tantalizing aromas of boerewors, spit braai and snoek, to name but a few of the goodies that were sizzling away on the grill in true South African style. The cakes were sold out quickly, like most of the other stalls.

The tea garden offered sit-down or takeaway options, and revived the spirit with a cup of ‘boeretroos’ and a nice big slice of cake; there were too many to choose from, which saw people taking one of each and tucking in. The children were entertained with a jumping castle, face painting and a train ride. At some stage, it seemed like the whole town was gathered on the SAVF grounds to support a worthy cause. There was not a face in the crowd that did not have a smile or a friendly expression… Vryheiders and the SAVF know how to ‘bazaar’ in the true sense of this traditional word.
