Paradise Hindu Temple observes Luxmi Prayer
August 5 – The annual Luxmi Prayer will take place at the Paradise Hindu Temple at 17:30. The officiating priest is Guru Kishen Naidoo. Supper will be served and all are welcome.

St Dominics hosts astronomy evening
August 11 – Angus Burns will present an interesting talk on astronomy in the urban context. The event begins at 18:00 at St Dominics Newcastle (148 Murchison Street) – entry is free and the event is open to the public. You can also stand the chance to win a Celestron StarSense ExplorerLT 114 AZ, sponsored by Celestron South Africa.

Hindu Dharma hosts annual Maha Yajna Prayer
August 14 – The Hindu Dharma Newcastle will hold the 23rd annual Maha Yajna Prayer at 08:00, at the corner of St Thomas and Dixon Streets in Lennoxton. Benefits of the prayer include: overcoming poverty, vanquishing diseases, atoning for sins, rain, grain, peace and prosperity. The programme will include 1008 Ahuti Yajna (hawan), soul-stirring Bhajans and discourses, and a peace walk. Sponsorships and donations are welcome – parsadh and lunch will be served. Nofta hosts its annual general meeting
August 17 – Nofta will hold its AGM at 10:00 at the service centre (Nightingale Street). Registered members of the organisation are eligible to vote and to be voted for. Nofta encourages the younger generations to volunteer their services.

Nofta embarks on Namaqualand trip
September 3 – Nofta will tour Namaqualand from September 3 to 9, including visits to Bloemfontein, Upington, the Augrabies Falls, Springbok, Namaqualand and The Big Hole in Kimberley. The cost is R8 500 per person sharing (under-60s) and R7 600pp sharing (senior citizens) – an immediate deposit of R3 500 will secure a seat. St Dominics Newcastle hosts reunion
September 3 – All past St Dominics Newcastle learners are invited to join a day of events, followed by a special reunion dinner.
