uThukela warns public about job scam

The municipality urges potential job seekers to be vigilant and not allow themselves to be conned

Following the recent advertisement of vacancies on their website, uThukela has issued a job scam warning today (August 23).

According to a statement by uThukela, the scam is being perpetrated by a fraudster who calls himself Mr Sibisi and claims to be working for the district municipality. He phones or sends messages to potential job seekers, claiming he got their number from the ward councillor. He then promises them jobs.

The statement goes on to say that this individual pretends to be an official working in the Human Resources Department at uThukela District Municipality. He sends ‘his picture’ and post descriptions to the vulnerable, asking for a ‘cold drink’ (bribery).

“We therefore urge the public to be vigilant and not to accept any job offer they did not apply for, or never conducted an interview for, and not to give their CV to any individual they don’t know,” says uThukela.
