Amajuba approves 2024/2025 budget

Amajuba district municipality passed its 2024/2025 budget at a council meeting today (May 30).

Amajuba District Municipality has passed the R329-million 2024/2025 budget.

Addressing the councillors present, Mayor Ndabuko Zulu spoke on the need for increased revenue collection to improve the municipality’s financial status.

“Emphasis must be placed on revenue collection while minimizing wasteful and non-essential spending within the municipality,” Mayor Zulu said.

Councillors, who approved the budget, pledged to prioritise service delivery, asset maintenance, bulk water purchasing, water treatment, and wastewater treatment.

Highlights of the approved budget for the 2024/2025 financial year are as follows:

-Operating Revenue Budget -R329 787 037.

-Operating Expenditure Budget -R255 136 835.

-Capital Budget allocation (to be funded mainly from Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) and Municipal Water Infrastructure Grant) of R129 345 261.

-Water and sanitation tariffs and other minor tariffs be approved at a 6% increase to be effective from 1 July 2024.

-Operating Surplus of R74 650 202
