Mayor leads anti-crime campaign ahead of the festive season

Amajuba District Mayor, Ndabuko Zulu, launched a campaign to educate residents on how to ensure their safety over the holidays.

The KZN Department of Police, Community Safety and Liaison, Department of Social Development, KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, and other local crime-fighting organisations attended the campaign, which held at Phelandaba (Madadeni) on Friday, November 17.

“The holidays are approaching, and there will be a lot of criminal activity. We urge our people to be vigilant,” commented Mayor Zulu.

According to the most recent crime statistics, police stations in the Amajuba district are among the top 20 in all of South Africa for reported cases of crimes, including drinking and driving, assault with grievous bodily harm, sexual assault, arson, and vigilantism/mob justice.

Turning to the impact drugs have on spreading crime in the Amajuba communities, Mayor Zulu implored the community ‘to do all they can to join in the fight against crime.’

“We also urge parents and the community as a whole to close all the loopholes for the distribution and use of drugs”, he concluded.
