Municipality welcomes two new councillors

Cllr Buthelezi and Cllr Khanyile emerged victorious during the highly-contested by-elections that were held on June 28

The Inkosi Langalibalele Municipal Council welcomes two new councillors who were elected into office during the recent by-elections. Cllr Sandile Phethwe Buthelezi from Ward 21 and Cllr Delani George Khanyile from Ward 5 were sworn into office on June 30.

Cllr Buthelezi and Cllr Khanyile emerged victorious during the highly-contested by-elections that were held on June 28 in Loskop Ward 5 and Weenen Ward 21 respectively.

Cllr Lindani Mlaba of Ward 13 will continue to act and preside over the affairs of Ward 14 in Ntabamhlophe in the absence of a duly-elected councillor.

The swearing-in of the new councillors by the Commissioner of Oath means that the residents of both Ward 21 and 5 are now represented in council and will continue to be serviced by the municipality through their councillors. Mayor Mduduzi Myeza congratulated the newly-elected councillors and wished them well in the execution of their duties.

In the same breath, he extended his appreciation to the councillors who were deployed in Ward 21 and Ward 5, who ensured that there was no leadership vacuum and also that service delivery was not interrupted as a result of the expulsion of their councillors. Speaker Simphiwe Khumalo also congratulated Cllrs Buthelezi and Khanyile, and promised them that his office will go beyond the call of duty to ensure that they are supported as they hit the ground running to serve their constituencies.
