Long-awaited hall project finally reaches completion

The construction of this project took enormous planning and dedication of funding, with the hall being strategically placed where the community needs it most

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza officially handed over the long-awaited Ncunjane Community Hall to the community of eNcunjana in Ward 22 under the Inkosi Mchunu Traditional Authority.

The event was held on May 28. The mayor proudly handed over the completed community hall in a tent that was full to capacity.

The construction of this project took enormous planning and dedication of funding, with the hall being strategically placed where the community needs it most. The building includes a side hall; two waiting / briefing rooms; and toilets for males, females and the disabled.

Furthermore, the hall has a production borehole that supplies its two 5000-litre JoJo tanks with water. This production borehole is electronic and supplies water to the tanks automatically until both tanks reach their full capacity.

Noting that there are some challenges with regards to access to water in this area, the production borehole will be very useful to nearby communities, as they are permitted to get water from the hall for household use. Myeza added that one of the key functions of the municipality is to facilitate and enhance community participation and this is achieved in many ways.

He was quoted as saying “actions speak louder than words” and as the leadership, he believes that these words should be put into practice.

He further stated that this handover should not be the last time such a massive community engagement is held in this area of Ncunjane, but residents should be meeting regularly to discuss their envisaged activities to be conducted in this very same building.

Myeza urged the community to take good care of this facility and make use of it in many ways that will benefit the local residents. He also asked the community to be its eyes and ensure its protection from vandalism and theft.

Deputy Mayor Nhlanhla Dladla, who is the ward councillor, expressed his gratitude as he witnessed this project finally being handed over. He could not contain his delight at seeing this service delivery initiative coming to life.
