Damaged road left to deteriorate

Motorists have been waiting for more than a year for road repairs

Neglected … is how some residents that travel in Canna Avenue frequently feel. Sphe Mzolo is one of the residents that regularly have to navigate the rough terrain at the intersection of Canna Avenue and Sixth Street in Forderville.

The road is damaged by potholes and deep cracks and has been for more than a year. Despite many reports to the local municipality, pleading for road repairs, residents have seen no improvement.

“There is nothing worse than feeling like neglected by our own municipality. Rates are paid every month, vehicle licence every year but we end up driving on such road, it is very painful and annoying,” said Mzolo.

He added that heavy rain worsens the road surface, making it near impossible to drive on.

“When it rains, it’s a disaster and during heavy rain, I can guarantee that no vehicle will be using the road,” he said.

He hopes that by publicising the poor condition of this road, municipal authorities may pay attention.

With the Town rehabilitation Programme underway, the Estcourt News has, on several occasions, asked the local municipality about when road repairs will be done in residential areas. To date, no response has been received.
