Mayors, provincial delegation monitor school readiness in the district

The primary goal of the legislature's oversight exercise is to find progressive ways to improve the teaching and learning process in communities:

The state of school readiness ahead of the new school year was monitored by both the district and local mayors and a delegation from the KZN Legislature and Members of Parliament, education department officials and councillors and official from the Amajuba District Municipality.

District Mayor, Umntwana Ndabuko Zulu, District Speaker, Cllr SO Zulu and Newcastle Mayor, Cllr DX Dube and the provincial delegation wrapped up the three-day visit, examining the state of readiness for the start of the 2023 academic year of two schools in the Amajuba District (Thobani Senior Primary and Phendukani High School) as part of the school functionality monitoring programme.

This programme includes an inspection of a variety of concerns, including such as ensuring schools start classes on the first day of school, the delivery of stationery – checking on the availability of teaching material and school infrastructure conditions.

“The primary goal of the legislature’s oversight exercise is to provide members with the opportunity to directly engage with numerous stakeholders in order to find progressive ways to improve the teaching and learning process in communities,” the statement from the District Municipality concluded.
