Water interruptions set to continue

Leadership from the district municipality is expected in Estcourt today for an inspection on site

It’s another sweltering summer day without running water for hundreds of residents as widespread water interruptions strike again.

uThukela District Municipality reported yesterday (January 17) that silt had blocked the ‘gravity mains’ the from Bushman’s River to Archie Rodell Water Treatment Plant.

“Because of this, the plant is currently getting about 30% of raw water which is far less than the demand from communities. The reservoirs are very low, others are empty,” said the district municipality’s communication department.

In order to remove the silt, a qualified service provider would need to be employed, which the communications department says has not commenced yet.

“The uThukela District leadership will visit Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality by this afternoon to do an inspection on site,” said communications manager Jabulani Mkhonza.

There has been no indication about when the water supply is expected to return.
