Business owners receive equipment

The recipients were grateful to receive equipment for their developing businesses

Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality Mayor Mduduzi Myeza visited Ward 5 and Ward 9 on Wednesday, October 5. He was accompanied by Speaker SW Khumalo, Ward 5 Councillor M Mchunu, Ward 9 Councillor M Madinane, Ward 11 Councillor H Hadebe and Z Vilakazi.
The purpose of the visit was to hand over working equipment to the youth who benefited from the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) programme.

The first stop was at Esibayeni Cafe in Ward 5 to hand over equipment worth R12,000 and stock worth R38,000 to the owner, who received a grant worth R50,000 from NYDA.

The owner of Esibayeni is a young woman who is a land surveying graduate but, because of the high rate of unemployment, she decided to start a small business in order to create job opportunities for the youth. The municipality also helped her with transport to fetch her equipment from Pietermaritzburg.

Later the same day, the delegation went to eNkwezela section, Ward 9. There, they visited Masamela Ovens to hand over equipment to the grant recipient. The equipment, worth R50,000, included an oven, dough mixer, proofer, bread slicing machine and baking trays.
Masamela Ovens attended the Business Management Training organised by the municipality’s local youth office and conducted by the NYDA in the Uthukela District in February this year. The equipment had to be collected from Johannesburg and again the municipality provided transport.

The mayor and councillors were excited to see the youth investing in small businesses, which will help to reduce the unemployment rate among the youth.

The recipients were urged to employ other youth and to share with them how they can get off the ground if they too want to start a business. They were also advised to stay in touch with the local youth office for further assistance.
