Acting MM gives feedback on pothole patching in the CBD

The municipality says that the programme is progressing well

The Town Rehabilitation Programme has had a slow start, with two launches (one in April and another in September) and peppered with equipment breakdowns and insufficient material. However, this time around, the local municipality has reported that the appointed contractors are working well and some of the road rehabilitation and pothole patching has reached 80% completion.

Acting municipal manager Hans Chotoo responded to questions from the Estcourt News that were sent at the end of September, which finally gives an indication of the progress of the programme. Thus far, pothole preparation, resurfacing and patching, patching and repairing of edge breaks and asphalt, and surfacing has been completed in certain areas in the central business district (CBD).

Chotoo provided the following feedback about pothole patching:
Albert Street and Albert extension: The work has started and the contractor is progressing well to address potholes from the corner of Albert and Connor streets up until the intersection at VM Trucking before they proceed with the asphalt overlay of the CBD section of Albert Street.
Harding Street: Potholes that were identified were added to those that needed to be addressed. 100% of those potholes have been done.
Victoria Street: All the identified potholes have been resolved, aside from the ones the municipality has asked the engineers to address as extra work, which are located on the parking section.
Alfred Street: 80% of the work has been done, with the outstanding work still to be resolved by the end of the week.
Phillip Street: 75% of the work is done, with the outstanding work to be done and resolved by the end of the week.

In the coming week, focus will be placed on pothole preparation in Alexandra Street, where Chotoo says that 80% of the work has been completed, with the outstanding patching to be done by the end of the week.

He says there has been a delay in the programme due to large amounts of the required hot mix asphalt going to the roadworks on the N3.
