Celebrating Women’s Month in Wembezi

The community was sensitised about the role they can play in stopping abuse against women and children

On August 9, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality’s Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS) team, championed by Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, hosted a Women’s Month celebration in Mahhashini, Wembezi A- Section.

The role of the OSS is to sensitise people about violence against women and children, and find ways to deal with poverty and inequality that is rife among community members, especially women.

The programme got off to a vibrant start when the Ward Task Team (WTT) officially launched the Philamntwana Centre that will help look into the affairs of young children in terms of health. The Philamntwana Centre will be used by all families in Ward 17 to check the health status of their children.

Councillor Mchunu and the WTT also introduced the War Room to the community.

These offices will be used to report issues within the community, and residents will work with government departments to deal with community services information.

Cllr Mchunu welcomed the community and government departments, saying that women are the most important people in homes because they play a crucial role in keeping family bonds strong.
